The House of the Colonels was
built in the eighteenth century and is located in the
municipality of La Oliva.
One of the most
emblematic monuments of the Canaries, not only for being
the longest preserved home in the Canaries, but also for
having been the official residence of the Colonels, who
held military dominance on the island. It was Heritage Site in 1979 and in
1985 was declared of cultural interest. On the outside its facade made up
of a series of holes symmetrical in the two plants, with
windows of panels, at the bottom, and balconies discovered
at the top. The central part is of stone and
retain the Cabrera family crest and on this cross. On the
sides stand two crenellated towers that characterize the
building its military.
Inside is a traditional
courtyard with wooden stands that support the gallery, by a solemnladder accessing
a large number of halls and rooms, with windows of popular traditionin
quantity compared with the days of the year. On the ground floor were
located the barns, garage, stores, etc.., While the upper
floorhoused the family residence of Colonel of the island,
besides the chapel. Currently this space is used for
various cultural activities (exhibitions, concerts, etc..).
The Colonels House is open from
Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 to 14.00 and from 16.30 to
19.00. Free admission.
