The Entallada lighthouse is a very
peculiar building built in 1953, and is unique in the Canary
Islands. It was designed by architect Carlos Alcon.
The building has a tower and three homes.
It is located in the municipality of Tuineje, about 6 kilometers
from the village of LasPlayitas, and about 12 of
Great Tarajal. It sits on top of a cliff 200
meters high, and it´s the closest canarian point to Africa
(about 100 km). The views are spectacular, the sea
and the Natural Monument "Vigan knives", a protected
area because of its high scientific
interest. Knives are elongated mountain between two
valleys, and are remnants of large accumulations of lava
flows that formed large buildings. Its height is 500 meters.
To
get to the Lighthouse Entallada, we
must take the road leading to Great Tarajal(VF-20), and two kilometers
before, we
turn to
the village called Las Playitas, a fishing
village that has grown dramatically since 5 years to install a 4
& 5 star plus golf courses. Arriving in Las Playitas, we will
see on the left the road to the Lighthouse Entallada. It is a road of 6 kilometers in
length, which in its last section has a steep slope and its
width is not very big so you need to exercise caution when
driving. At the Lighthouse, there is a large
car park and a viewpoint that falls on the stunning cliff into
the sea just 200 meters below. It is worth a trip to this point,
only for the incredible views that have both the sea and the
mountains that surround it.
