El Tanquito, Cardon Mountain

At the base of Mount Cardon Protected Natural Monument, a small chapel of Our Lady of Tanquito, and this is where pilgrimage is held in early May.
Since the late twentieth century, makes this pilgrimage, in which the common people of Cardon, up to here with the statue of Our Lady of Tanquito, singing and dancing, and make a celebration with barbecues and other typical foods of Fuerteventura.
To get here, we leave the village of El Cardon Pájara direction. On the left of this road, and before a rise and curve to the right, there are three large greenhouses, and this is where the trail starts climbing 2.5 km to the Chapel. This starting point of the trail is marked by a small information sign.

The first stretch of trail before reaching the mountain is steep and leveled then to return to a steep in some points.
This trail is narrow, and at some point we must exercise extreme caution, as his condition is not very good.
The area of the Chapel has a bread oven, to cook the participants in the Pilgrimage, several barbecues, a well with water, and a gallery carved into the stone, which gives the water that comes with the trade winds and that hit the mountain, filtered and emerges at this point, as well as banks and areas for relaxation.
The tiny chapel has a lot of religious imagery and visitors' requests. Curiously, I will say that inside there is a letter that asks visitors to water plants that are at the entrance of this chapel, and aim the date on which they have been.
This place is a good place to stop and rest if you're going to continue climbing to the summit of Mount Cardon.
