Cofete Beach (Playa de Sotavento)
is one of the most beautiful places on the island. Access
is difficult because the road is not very good.
If you want to see this magnificent beach from a privileged
position, you should visit the Canaries Viewpoint, 10 kilometers south
of Costa Calma.
To access this lookout, you take the old road from Costa Calma to Morro Jable
(FV-2). In the Canaries Gorge, there is a gas station from where
the access to this viewpoint. You can reach the viewpoint of
two ways: on foot, parked at the gas station and taking the road
up the cliff (there is a sign of "No Trespassing" but you can
walk, you can drive or take the road to turn right, next to
the Forbidden signal, but you must go slowly and with caution
as you go through a private area. Since the station is 5 km. to
the lookout, so it takes to go down this road one and a half if
you walk or 10 minutes if you take the car.
From
the viewpoint, you have
a magnificent view of the Cofete beach, the mountains that
protect it (Pico de la Zarza), and the island from the beach and
the magnificent valley of Cofete. To the right of the lookout, there
is a dirt road that climbs a hill, from where there are
magnificent views of a cliff, and the end of the beach Cofete.
