Caleta de la Madera (Wood Bay), Jandia, Fuerteventura.
Jandia Peninsula is
the southern most area of the island of Fuerteventura, one of
the great unknown due to the relative difficulty in
accessing this site, but has some of the most
attractive landscape of the island. Besides access to Cofete, or visit
the (playa de Ojos) "Eyes Beach", or Puertito de la Cruz Town,
where it is typical to make a delicious fish soup, Caleta de la
Madera (Wood Bay) is a spectacular landscape of high geological
interest. To arrive to Caleta de la Madera,
we take the road running from the village to the Crib Point and
is just across the fish restaurants.
Follow this road and we have
two options to get to "Caleta de la Madera": Either take the
detour to the right at 2.5 km. out of town by a dirt track and
leave the car in the middle of this track and walk the last
mile walk (see photo in Photos section), or we go to "Punta
Pesebre" (5 kilometers from town), and to go walking along
the coast to a small hill which overlooks a panorama of
this inlet. I recommend this
second option, because if we left the car in the
small booth Crib Point maritime communications,
we can see in this incredible force of the Atlantic Ocean
crashing against the rocks, and then within half an hour
walk , reaching a small hill from plus view Timber Cove, we have
a magnificent view of the entire peninsula of Jandia.
The road from Morro Jable in Jandia Peninsula is not
comfortable, but it's worth spending a day of our holiday
in this area and also visit all the attractions of the area
mentioned above.
Highly recommended to visit this area of the island.
