Whenever I visited Betancuria, one
of the oldest cities in all the Canary Islands, and
ancient capital of Fuerteventura, went directly to the historic
center, to see his Church, the Archaeological Museum, etc.
But on the outskirts of this small
town from the north, we stop at the Franciscan Convent
San Buenaventura, in the year 1423. The convent and church were
built for the Franciscan friars who came to "evangelize" the
inhabitants of the island during the conquest. Currently retains only the walls of
the church, for nothing remains of the convent.
In this church we can see the
grave of Diego García de Herrera, one of the conquerors of the
island, who died in 1485
