Natural Monument Gairia boiler is
a volcanic cone of recent age and is located near the village
of Tiscamanita, between Antigua and Tuineje in central Fuerteventura.
It covers an area of 240 ha, and
you may access it and climb to the summit of 461
meters height d, where you can see other recent
volcanic formations, such as the Malpais Grande, and
other volcanic structures, such as the Laguna Caldera, exploited
until recent years as a producer of lapilli (volcanic stone used
in small gardens and parks in the Canary Islands as
"humidity sensor" of the atmosphere.
The volcano is Gairia at
the foot of the town of Tiscamanita (famous for its tasty tomato
plantations can be bought in any of the small businesses
that are in the main street of the town) and is located 10 kilometers
from Antigua and 4 of Tuineje, for the FV-20,linking the
capital with Great Tarajal.
From Tiscamanita can make
several hiking tours through the area: from the boiler up Gairia to visit
other recent volcanic edifices nearby: Laguna Caldera,
Caldera of the suburbs, the Laguna Caldera, Liria boiler, or other protected
area that borders this: the Big Badlands.
In the area you
can find freely grazing camels and herds of goats typical of
Fuerteventura, the symbol of the island.
