Corralejo Volcanoes

About six km. south west of Corralejo we find an area of about 5 kilometers long, with several volcanoes aligned perfectly towards North East.
This area of recent volcanoes is called "Red Mountain - Bayuyo", and can distinguish up to 9 buildings for which volcanic activity, the island increased in size about 120 square kilometers.
These volcanoes are "recent" (50,000 years), and in addition to the volcanic edifices are also responsible for the lava fields surrounding them (Malpais), and in this episode was formed volcanic island of Lobos, just 2 km. to Corralejo.

This alignment of volcanoes begins in the village of Lajares, with the Red Mountain-Calderon Hondo, and is then slice the Caldera and Caldera Encantada, Boilers andfinally Bayuyo Volcano, which dominates the town of Corralejo.
We can explore this area of volcanoes by a dirt road, on foot, by car or bike, or contract  a hire company to make excursions in Quad or small off-road cars.
We begin the journey from Corralejo, or from Lajares, (I recommend you to start from Lajares and visit at the Calderon Hondo, one of my favorite places on the island).
By this way, besides the volcanic structures and lava areas, we can see in several places called "Hornitos" which are "minivolcanoes" where the lava thrown out in large quantities (has a number of "hornitos "along down the road, and coming to Corralejo).
I usually make this journey by car, and I'm stopping at different places of the same, where there are posters explaining what we're seeing.

Highly Recommended visit for all ages.
